A bicycle built for one*

Well after reading Wee Wonderfuls blog today and going to the japanese website she reffered + while browsing I came upon a super cute small foldable bike, which comes in either white, pink, or turquoise....These bikes are seen ALL over Japan and when we are over there I always wan't to buy one and bring it back because Asian & European bikes are tons better than american bikes!!!! But since im sooo indecisive I always leave Japan without a bicycle :/ poo-ee I feel like such a retard too sometimes for living in a city where it is so easy to get around on bicycle and not have one of my very own (Hiro has one) So this is a shout out to my hubby = Look how cute that bike is & how even cuter it would be for me to have it or one like it plus with a wicker basket on the front for me to carry any make believe grocerys or packages :) or Sebastian more like it! Well I hope this plea works and to let you know Hiro how serious I am about wanting a bicycle of my own. :/

Metropolitan Montessori's School Play

Last night was a big night for Emily (one of the girls I babysitt) She had her school play "Dear Edwina" which was sooo witty and fabulous! I didn't want it to end. From what ive been told it is a new play (about 4 years old). Here is a brief description of what the play is about : Edwina Spoonapple lives in Paw Paw Michigan with her parents and 3 siblings. All her Siblings are really good at something and have ribbons and certificates showcased on the fridge to prove it. However Edwina isn't well skilled in the areas of violin or swimming, but........she is good at giving advice! So the story goes on to kids who write Edwina letters about how to get so and so's little brother to stop bugging her, a girl who is shy, or how to set th dinner table correctly ( salad fork, for , plate, knife, spoon ) This play even though it's set in todays time gave me a feeling of the late 40's for some reason. Anyways if you ever see this play appearing in your neck of the woods I highly recommend it & I imagine reading the book will be just as great!

Drawing Game*

A couple years ago I made up a game for Emily and I (Emily is one of the girls that I babysitt everyday - she is 10 now) I don't have a name for the game but this is how it goes. We each number our paper from 1 -10 on down. Then for each number we put 3 things - anything we want, but it has to be a person place or thing. After we each were done with our list then whoever wanted to go first to draw would have the other person (let's say me) name off the things of my list and then Emily would pick which ever item from those three that she wanted to draw. This is a nice game for those days when your having artists block and you need a recharge....it helps get your wheels turning again. Plus you have a collection of cool little drawings afterwards :) Emily was so kind to give me hers so I could put up on my blog and show you her drawings! *cute huh*

The Gates of Love*

Today's late afternoon was joining the two love birds Lola & Sebastian together at Central Park. Oh was he ever so excited to see his beloved Lola! Lots of sniffing and tail wagging going on. Now back at the fort and in from the cold (and don't be fooled by those sun shiny pictures ~ it was soooooo cold today!) On the way home in the cab Sebastian told Hiro and I of the lovely time he had with Lola and of all the things they talked about i.e. a really cool stick by the bench, what group of pigeons should they chase, the big golden retriever with the funny coat on :) lol Oh he can't wait for the next get together!

Spring/Summer Bookmark Design #1

Baby Bjorn

So this little guy has been due for about a week now ~ he is 6 inches long & counting his tail 9 inches, and weighs about 3oz.

cubby house

Yesterday (and continuing on to today) Hiro and I did a major deep clean of our large orange cabinet. Well Sebastian took it upon himself to make a little home inside our cabinet (with a little help from us ofcourse :) But we literally had to pry him out, so I gave one of my bottom cubbys to him permanently. Now all he needs is a red ferrari!

A Temper for my Tempera

So last Thursday I trecked down to Pearl Paint in chinatown. That was a big deal being that it was cloudy and if there is anything that I don't like it's going out when it's dreary! And last Thursday was dreary, but once inside pearl my little firecrackers started popping again. One of the things I stocked up on was Tempera Paints, now I hope I don't offend any artists out there but Tempera is my favorite medium to paint with. I love the thiness of it which makes it easy to spread, I love that I can easily make fine smooth lines, I love that it has a matte finish and not glossy like all the others, I love that I won't feel bad about using my paint brush in it to mix other colors, I love that it is easy to get out of my paint brush and clean up else where ......and the list goes on! So now that ive got more colors ( gotta go back for more of the metalics though) I can really go to town again with painting. HEE YA!

Sebastian Longing for a sweetheart

Happy Valentine's Day

This past Saturday my church had an event for the "ladies" and I was incharge of the center pieces for the tables. So it being close to Valentine's Day I opted for a heart theme. I came up with the idea of glitter trees with hearts hanging from them. I also put some hersheys kisses in tissue paper ~ tied it up with a bow and placed 10 of them around each tree ( I made 5 trees) Since I loved doing this craft so much I thought I would share it with everybody. Total Time it took to make a tree = 2 hrs. or less 1. Cut out a cone shape on cardboard 2. score with your scissors or knife about 5 or 6 lines down the cone - this makes it easier to shape the trunk 3. cut out a circle from your cardboard for the base 4. cut your pipe cleaners into 3rds & fourths- twist the short "branches" around the long "branches" 5. take your pin and poke holes all around the trunk up high & then pull your pipe cleaner branch through 6. with the pipe cleaner through just 1/2 inch, push them up against the cardboard 7. glue gun over the pipe cleaners on the inside of the trunk 8. next, fold the two sides of the trunk together, & glue together with your glue gun 9. now glue gun the trunk to the base 10. paint the mod podge or elmers glue on the trunk and base 11. cover with glitter 12. dip your fingers in the glue & squeeze the pipe cleaners through - this helps create a base for the glitter to stick to 13. let dry thoroughly & then paint again with glue and then cover with glue- ( using a spoon to spread the glitter help minimize the mess of it getting everywhere) 14. when all is dry tip over your tree and put glue on the bottom of the base - cover with felt or fabric 15. if desired, add a trim around the tree's base to give it a finished look. 16. EAT! *

Vases

One of my obsessions when it comes to home decor is vases. Growing up we had a good amount of vases and a HUGE backyard with flowers to fill them. I guess thats one of the downsides about living in an apt. in NYC is not getting to go out in the yard and collecting a bouquet ~ atleast the flowers on the corners here are afordable for me to buy on a weekly basis. But even if you aren't in the habit of buying flowers or don't have it in your budget or live in Arizona where your mostly supplied with cactus and red rock then maybe splurge on a vintage McCoy/Hull vase....they are so delightful to look at that you almost forget you need to fill it with flowers...even paper flowers would look so elegant in one of them. p.s. If anybody out there has one of them and would like to do a trade with me *please holler*

sneak peak spring 05 collection

So I thought id show a little of what im thinking about for my spring 05 collection ++++ my theme is "gathering small driftwood along the beach" I got this idea because all ive been thinking about [vacation wise] is how growing up we went to the oregon coast about 5 or 6 times and how much I miss that ....and since I most likely won't be able to visit it again for probablly 5 or 6 years I thought that I should have it come visit me :) On the top that the girl is wearing it may look to you like its different colored shapes on fabric around the neck and sleeves but actually it would be layers (about 6 or 7) of lightweight shear stretchy fabric....and the rest being silk....with thick white linen drawstring capris..at the bottom of the capris it looks like plaid and polka dots which it is but if you can imagine it being all in white.. o give it just a different taste of texture (the polka dots would be embroidered) Also brown suede outlining of the pockets and a wooden whistle around her neck :)

package from amazon!

Yeah* I just got back from work and my books from Amazon arrived. Soooooo excited because these books are particularly special. When Hiro and I were in Japan last month & Dec. for the holidays I had seen so much moomin figurines here and there and debated wether to get some or not [bytheway, shopping in Japan is a rigorous and 100% mental activity for me since Im not "bringing home alot of bacon" as of yet. You want to buy EVERYTHING!!!! so spending the moolah wisely is very important. and this year I decided to spend most of my money on books & craft supplies + next year I can do the figurines] okay so I didn't get any moomin items but I was so curious about it's history. My husband grew up on it's T.V. show when he was a wee little lad :) lol and he tried explaining it to me but had a hard time ~ and I can now understand why.... last week when I started on reading tales from moominvalley I was lost on the spot...but then all the different characters pulled me right in and since then im obsessed. The character Little My so far is my favorite one. So what im trying to get at is if you haven't come across Tove Jansson's books - please do! So worth your while* And last but not least , in the pile of books was one of my all time favorites growing up "Caps for Sale" Im mostly in love with the colors used but the story is just as good.

Organizing part 1 - completed

I finally finished organizing all my magazine clippings. Total time = 11 hrs. space saved = 1 1/2 cubby +++ I now have an added excitment went I open my cupboard. Next project to tackle = closet space!

Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix

Yeah - today in the mail when I got back from my interview at *Parsons* we received our dvd's and comic book from amazon. My hubby was so nice to order me another one of Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix comic book - his favorite one which is "Resurrection" Im excited to start reading it. If you haven't read any of Osamu Tezuka's comic books then I highly recommend it - it will bring you to a whole new dimension.

Christmas & New Years in Japan 04/05

Instead of emailing or mailing our photos from our Christmas and New Years in Japan, I thought blogging them would be alot better plus save me time! Since there are alot of photos im going to add them in groups today whenever ive got some spare time. These pictures are of the food we ate - Im still kind of having a hard time with some of the restaurants - they don't cater to vegetarians in Japan which is fine but im also not a big seafood fan :/ So that really limits me. However my mother in law took Hiro and I to the most amazing authentic italian restaurant in Jiyugaoka (# 3) . I can still remember the taste of the pasta that I had. We were also bummed that we couldn't really take any pictures of all the restaurants decor ----- Lets just say that the Japanese bring eating to a whole new level! *********** Now for the cell phones. Hiro and I are always saying that we want a cell phone from Japan. They are so high-tech and colorful that I just want one to look at. I can't ever see us getting a cell phone out here until they start coming up with better designs and more color choices!++++++ more photos to come :)
