A Bold & Hefty Statement

While I was surfing the net trying to find some retro/modern [not cheesy modern] upholstery fabric for our dining chairs that we just got on craigs list, I came upon the site www.maximodesign.com. While instantly falling in love with this site [because it hosts one of my favorite artists Alexander Calder] I saw two things on there that I had to have! And was determined to get them until I saw the price tag.......... I guess ill have to wait 5 or so years for them. :(

2 GREAT things!

Yesterday as I was coming down the escalator in Barnes & Nobles, my eyes quickly glanced at a book which read on the cover " It's Here Somewhere".....as I walked by saying that in my head I wheeled my body 180 degrees back to that book. That book that I so almost easily passed (had it not been for the title ringing in my head my WHOLE entire life growing up) was my mother's :) *smiles* Barnes & Noble has just republished it again but in hardback & with a more updated look. If you are ever in need of some quick and easy how to's about organizing...this book is it! It has lots of visuals (half of which are from my home in Washington state where I grew up) Plus it's at a great price of only $6.98 *fantastic* !!! Now onto the second item that im goggy over :) DOMINO !!! Finally a magazine about design but with a different twist. Their "mantra" [taken from the editors letter] is to "Hook me up." Don't just show me a nice console table; suggest unexpected mirrors that might look great hanging above it. Don't just offer me a selection of gorgeous wallpapers; give me ideas about where to hang them etc. Deborah Needleman [Editor in Chief] goes on to say that they believe style is for everyone *here here!!!* And that at Domino they want to provide inspiration and make sure you can act on it! Well let me just say that my couple hours I had to pour over Domino last night gave me so many ideas of what to do with our place but also the confidence to actually put "my" ideas into action. Can't wait for next months issue!

star studded night

So last night I finally *browsed* craigslist for the very first time. I am kicking myself now about not taking notice of it when I first heard about it a couple years ago....I was thinking of all the great furniture that we could have gotten [and saved $ on] had we looked through craigslist first. So what brought me to go on craigslist was a disagreement that hiro and I had about "second hand items". I wanted to go to the salvation army to look for a dining table yesterday, but hiro refused and said "oh gross no way - I don't want second hand furniture" I don't know why but this upset me soooo much. I kept trying to explain to him that anything could be second hand...not all second hand items are gross. I mean it's not like there is a brand called "second hand" and the designers of that try and make it the tackiest ugliest worthless piece of junk that falls apart in 5 seconds.... or is there such a thing... um actually yes fingerhut furniture!!!! :) I wish he could see the fun of finding something unique or sometimes not and being able to change that look if you desire and then if it didn't turn out the way you liked it well then you can easily give it right back to charity without feeling guilty for spending so much $ on it. I guess that's one of the down sides for me about buying new furniture [couches & beds excluded] is that if we buy a brand new desk or something ---- then I definitely don't want to do anything to it, or atleast for a couple years....so yep craigslist - I was browsing it last night and saw soooo many great things as im sure all of you do, and I am now determined to secretly buy a table and chairs from there and surprise him with it :) ahahah lol and here is another picture for you all. enjoy*

Sunday Style in the Park

So yeah.....with it being 85 degrees [this is what I saw on the billboard by my apt.] in the city yesterday ~ we most certainly had to kick off the fabulous weather with heading to Central Park. Note: 3 million other people had the same idea :) It was insainly crowded! For the 5 years that ive been here I never seen Central Park this crowded. Luckily our favorite spot next to Sheeps Meadow wasn't that polluted with people but still an eye sore :/ We did get to lay down though next to this very cool miniature bon fire that somebody or some animal (?) consructed :) and as always lil dude [Sebastian] was in his element!

Basquiat

My thanks to Stella from momomoogie.com, on her journal she brought to my attention Jean-Michel Basquiat's exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. I too have been "influenced" by his work. I always loved his color palette and the thick black lines - always reminds me of a prehistoric person drawing with charcoal. I definitely won't miss this one!

Influence

YEAH! I finally finished my "fashion" zine - except it's not really so much a zine about fashion but about my influences and how I interpret them into my designs....but now that I think of it I don't think I explained it that well in the zine. Anyhoo it's finally done & im going to make copies of it right now. Here is a picture of the cover. * hope you like*

in a funk*

Man oh man - today has been one of those days.......... where do I begin? Mmmmmm perhaps with me starting my day off with watching the TONY DANZA SHOW!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man I think thats what put me in this funk mood - and just even thinking of the word funk gives me the willies > I imagine my self stuck in a room full of half dried elmers glue and all my movements are slow motion. So yeah.......I didn't really accomplish much today except gripe and groan about how annoyed I am with myself that I can't even learn stupid dreamweaver. :( sadness* I did manage though to draw a little picture at work....and I was almost on track again with my hard working happy thought process until I was interupted :/
