Switzerland to Italy

After staying four days in Switzerland my sister and I then drove down towards Italy. Our first stay was in Genova which was really beautiful and super laid back! Then we continued our drive down the coast line towards Cinque Terre! Our now and forever favorite place! [probably in the world] We are going to try and make that a permanent vacation place now :) Here's more pictures*

Pictures of my trip in Europe [Switzerland]

Well I just got back from my vacation to Europe yesterday - Overall the trip was fantastic! There were some minor speed bumps in the way, in terms of "winging it", having a large american size car over there and trying to drive down some streets that were about 8 feet wide [maybe less?] and following the road signs....that was a little tricky. And the prices for everthing was great. So I met my sister in Geneva, Switzerland where we then took the train up to Martigny. Her friend picked us up there and drove us to her village Bruson which was about 20-30 min. away [I forget] About 300 people live in the village Bruson - im bummed I didn't get more pictures of that place but here are some of my favorite from there.

Photo Collage

This past Monday & Tuesday I was up in New Canaan, Connecticut with the girls I babysitt. Their grandma lives there and every summer now for the past four years we have gone and visited her. Their grandma's house is like a little treasure trove - in every room there are little trinkets, some antique some vintage. I was really inspired ~ I hope these photos of her home bring out something in you as well. :)

Friday's Excursion

The girls that I babysitt - Annie & Emily - planned a whole day activity for us three up in Rhinebeck, NY which is just 2 hours from here. They go there quite often since their country house is only a 20 min. drive from this exceptionally quaint town. Our first stop was at their country house where we unloaded their belongings and walked around their property for a bit. Emily showed me the progress of their play house that their dad is building them in the woods! I was thoroughly inspired by every tree and insect. I know that sounds obtuse for those who live outside the city, but besides Central Park, Manhattan doesn't have a whole lot of nature going on in terms of woods [correct me if im wrong] It was just great to be in real nature again and have my wheels start turning, I luckily got some fresh ideas for this fall and can't wait to start on that. Then we went into Rhinebeck and had lunch at GiGi's where we three shared some tarragon and basil french fries that were to die for! I ordered a pear, goat cheese, and fig thin crust pizza that was AWESOME!!!!! Did a little shopping, where I picked up some knee socks, barrettes, handkerchief, & a potato gun at a store called A.L. Stickleys. I is an old fashion general store type that sells anything from hard ware tools to latch hook kits. Annie got a coloring book & a box of 64 crayons...she was reminiscing back in the day [she is 14] and Emily was trying to get me to let her get this farting finger pen that is shaped as a finger and when you pull it farts! Hysterical, but after the 5th fart it lost its charm. Then we went to Calico for some dessert & Oblong Books where I got a little book on Italian for next week, and then we walked to the Rhinebeck pool for a swim which was only 3 blocks away. Unfortunately the pool was closed due to the thunder storm so we hung out at the picnic tables for and 1 1/2 until it was time for me to get on the train back to the city. For those of you who do live in the NYC area I highly recommend taking a day trip up to Rhinebeck for the food alone! The shopping as far as clothing is concerned is more for the whole foods hippie I think, but still a lot to look at.

O.T.

My first designer that I fell in love with was Olivier Theyskens [still is] back in 1998 from a tiny article I read about him in my Vogue. I think at the time I was more in love with his background than his clothes oddly...but as time keeps a movin on he is still on my top 5 list of favorite designers. And that's why im excited for the two upcoming seasons - He to me is more of a fall and winter man - it's funny how some designers only go with certain seasons you know......Also Olivier would be someone on my tiny list of people I would like to get to know - there is something about him that is so enchanting....and I also feel this way about Ralph Rucci for some reason - even though his clothes aren't something id wear right now, later on though im sure. Im just curious to know for those of you who are reading this what your top 5,10,or 20's are of anything :)

20 % of teen pregnancies are planned

So while I was at work tonight reading the latest issue of Seventeen magazine [the girl's magazine whom I babysitt] while I should have been reading "1984", however this article in Seventeen was just toooo weirdly funny. Okay so the picture is of this girl Sheena, her baby, and the baby's father & her boyfriend Joseph who doesn't look too pleased. YEAH YOU THINK?...... But as I read this article with my mouth wide open and come to find out that he wasn't against having a baby, a little anger inside starts to stir up. This is just..... oh I don't know 5% maybe of what our tax dollars go to. Now im not one who likes to rag on the government all the time since I think were doing a pretty good job for being such a young country and what not, but could we just stop enabling everyone around us and start taking responsibility for our actions. A little slap on the hand isn't doing diddly squat! :/ There I said my peace ------ tomorrow's topic "hobo bling" :) lol <-- this is something the girls I babysitt [11 yrs. & 14 yrs.] want me to talk about.
