Something Lame*

Today while on the M14 cross town bus heading back home from school, I passed Urban Outfitters and low and behold.......... Windows with FREAKING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS ALREADY!!!!! Im getting so annoyed with this, I feel like my "special" feelings [cheesy I know] are slowly being taken away from me one holiday at a time. What is so special about Christmas now if we start getting ready for it in September, October, and November? So as to not end on a cranky note I thought Id share some little things from one of my favorite websites www.slow-works.com, don't these look like they would be easy and *fun* to make?!

Designers & Agents

Hiro and I just got back from the D&A expo downtown. It was a really great experience to walk around and meet some designers and/or their agents. There was alot of fresh new ideas that was so inspiring, and then there was quite a few booths that were showcasing clothing & accessories that we have already seen now for the past two seasons!! I was saying to Hiro that I really really really don't want to become one of those designers that follows the trends, but instead id rather have the "trends" follow me. Oh well, anyways here is just a few of some of the cards I picked up from my favorite booths.

Time for SODAFINE!

Okay New Yorkers! Now's the time to get your act together and head on over to Sodafine boutique in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Erin [the owner of the shop in the white dress:) ] has just refashioned the place with an arty sophisticate style. The items of the independent designers [including yours truly :) ] that she has stocked are treasured pieces, some being one of a kind. Sure go on over to Urban Outfitters and H&M to get your wears, but I warn you....you WILL look like everyone else on the block! Here is just a wee little list of some of the designers she carries: Feralchilde, Wooden Mustache, Dear Birthday, Bakelite bits, Purldrop, Tina Ruth and that's just to name a few. Plus last but not least, my favorite bit of news to share :) I found out the Meg White of the White Strips recently bought 3 of Erin's crochet doily collars [her line of accessories called Purldrop] from Paper Boat Boutique in Milwaukee, WI. And she wore the black one [same one as shown in the picture on my friend Holly] to one of their shows they put on! Hats of to Erin! :) Have a good weekend everyone & don't forget to make some time for reflection on those lost on 9/11..... My heart goes out to all who was affected by that. 246 dekalb avenue. School Update #1

So I started school this past Tuesday, and all is well in terms of classmates [they are all pretty cool] The teachers are really nice, however I haven't met my lab or drawing fundamentals teachers. Although my critical reading and writing teacher....I can't seem to figure her out, it seems like she has some kinda chip on her shoulder or perhaps a guy rubbed her the wrong way and now she is eternally annoyed with the class [?] I dunno, all I know is that that class will be extremly tough for me! So today I had 3D design [I have it twice a week] and Lyle my teacher, took us down to Soho to look at linear lines, shadows, etc. So we were all taking pictures of buildings and other subject matter. I made a lil photo collage of some of my favorite pictures from today :)

Be Prepared!

Last night while talking to my mom on the phone about all thats happened down south, plus we can't forget the Tsunami in January.....She reminded me of the survival kits that we had stored in our hall closet growing up. She kept telling me over and over last night that Hiro and I need to get prepared for this kind of stuff. So when something like this happens we grab our "survival kit" and were OUT! These situations can happen to ANYONE, and we should all take heed of the "natural" warnings that have been given to us and get prepared. So last night as Hiro and I were talking this over, he was saying that getting two survival kits wasn't really in our budget [now that were on a single income] and with that being true, however we cannot afford not to get one! Here are some websites I found that offer some good survival kits and for your dogs & cats as well! I encourage us all to take this seriously and buy a kit or make one, just even for peace of mind.

A new tale begins.......

Today is my first day of school at Parsons [New School University] ------ im really nervous +...................... I feel as though im shedding my old skin and starting on a new one. For "Self Portrait Tuesday" which ive never partook of because you would get bored of seeing me in my same hairdo day in and day out in the same ol apartment :) however... I thought id tweek the theme a bit towards "Self Portrait Tuesday Collage" in which I did a digital collage of myself....I wanted it to be a little eerie but with excitement [if that makes sense] based on how I feel today with my first class approaching soon... lump in throat +
