Fashion Fusion

So Parsons and FIT are having a fashion show contest that takes place this coming April, the first two years Cynthia Rowley was the celebrity judge and this year they are trying to get Betsey Johnson if im correct :/ and ROBERT VERDI WHO I LOVE!!!!!!!! [from the show "Surprise by Design" and also on the Style network, so Friday was the due date for the fashion sketches/drawings/paintings etc. If you are chosen [15 students from each school are picked] then you have to make everything yourself...The coordinator of Fashion Fusion told us at that a girl last year took her designs to a manufacturer and had them make everything, needless to say she got thee ol Swedish boot [something my Swedish great grandmother used to give my mom while my mom was visiting her on her farm in the summers ] ANYWAYS :) lol so we have to make everything ourselves...The only help we can get is from the others who get accepted. Which is cool....unless people start getting super catty....which im sure there will be people acting like that, oh the stories I've heard of what some students have done to try and manipulate others during the application process *CREEPY* stuff! Okay to the point. We find out this week who made it in, my fingers are crossed for me to get in, but if I don't then probably it's for a reason...and I can always apply next year as well..but that would be my last shot...anyways, whatever. Here are some of my "Mens Wear" artworks that I did for it, I did women's as well. Hope you like. :)

Museum of Modern Art

Yesterday for my Critical Reading & Writing class, we headed up to the M.O.M.A to view their Architecture and Design Exhibit that they have going on right now. Many of the items showcased were ones that we all have seen over and over again but still the items never become boring to look at. I was able see something by Paul Rand, a poster he designed for IBM and Le Corbusier of a house he did [pictured in photo collage, house with rectangle windows] - We are studying both Paul Rand and Le Corbusier in my CR&W class...

American Museum of Natural History

Yesterday for my drawing fundamentals class we headed to the A.M. of N.H. to gesture draw the dinosaurs, ocean life etc. It was an awesome exercise! While walking around and looking at all the jelly fish, crabs and such the spread from Domino's magazine "Turn this outfit into a room" that they have every month came to mind. I was inspired by all the shapes and textures of everything I saw and thought it would be cool if Vogue for instance, to go with Domino's idea and instead do "Turn this Cnidarian i.e. into an outfit." I colored all those pictures the same just so the viewer wouldn't have a fixed look of the ocean life color scheme of turquoise & coral colors and instead concentrate on the outline, indentations etc. if that makes sense... [?] :)

Take a "look" at this

Special thankyou to Zoe who notified me of my letter published in the lattest issue of Look Look magazine [ The magazine by young photographers, writers, and artists ] If you haven't checked out this magazine you should, it's definitely worth the $5.95 and the net profits benefit young artists.

School Update #2

For an assignment in my Drawing Fundamentals class we had to go to "The Drawing Center & Room" to view their LineAge exhibit that they have going on now for fall 2005. Of all the artists there, my favorite was David Tallitsch. He had a wall all to himself where thumbtacked were large and small geometric drawings. [One of my favorite elements of drawing] beneath it was a little drawing desk with books stacked at the two bottom corners and oil pastels laid out between, above that was all different colorful columns of sculpty clay on top of each other. Some of his drawings were of the stacks of clay. Beneath is a drawing on the card I took. One of my other classes is 3D [which I absolutely Love!] Due Tuesday is two linear small scale sculptures one of which needs to be an insect [I chose a butterfly which is pretty ordinary] and the other sculpture is non objective, so I decided to make a wall hanging of some sort with a Scandinavian influence, I twisted my wire around pencils, chopsticks etc. I then decided to spray paint it a black matte yesterday which I know regret..... :/

Dream Meister

Last night I had an amazing dream that I was working along side Olivier [Theyskens] here in New York in some fantasy show room. We were sitting in the window sill of a gigantic window sewing buttons on a dress together and talking about our favorite childhood memories. Through out the dream I was constantly sewing while seasons were passing by, then I realized that I hadn't seen Hiro [my husband] in forever. Once that thought occured to me I slowly slipped out of my dream and into reality. I probablly spent 45 min. lying in bed this morning thinking about and I still can't get it out of my head. I never want to forget that dream!

Lost 'n' found

Last Friday on my way of out Parsons' 2 w. 13th building right next to the exit door, lay this cute little hand made zine/book [?] It has only 3 pages and the picture of it shown is its actual size. Im really curious to know who made it, it was a nice lil pick me up in contrast to the crappy day I was having :(
