Polyhedrons to the Max!

In my 3D class we are making polyhedron [ a solid figure with many plane faces, typically more than six] sculptures. I knew right away I wanted to make jewelry out of polyhedrons ~ so I decided to stick with one color palette for this [gold] different shades ofcourse. I got some "Crafters Metallic" spray paint in a gold matte and it is AMAZING!!! I sprayed some of my polyhedron beads with it and they look really fantastic! No runny streaks, nice satin finish etc. So im happy about that....then I made a different variety of polyhedron patterns and traced them on my gold kid skin leather and are sewing them up - and I will also trace them on my ribbon of brass I got in Chinatown, and try my hand at constructing those...much harder I think - especially since I had to get plastic welder - which ive never used and quite frankly am afraid to. So for now these are the pictures ive got of some of the materials I will be using ~ ill update more on it tonight after my 3D class - to show what ive done thus far. :)

OHHHHHHHHHHH CRAPP!!!!! Um I haven't been wearing a mask when ive been spraying stuff with this! :( Even though it's a no brainer to wear masks when spraying stuff I never do.... :/ and this spray is worse than regular spray paint?

i don't know, i've used real toxic automotive in school. i imagine you'd be doing this outdoors, so just get those disposable paper masks and wear 2 of them...

(unasked tip: if your materials take the paint differently, use a coat of primer first, then the paint will look the same on all different surfaces)

well perhaps this explains why im a little behind in all things - missing brain cells!!!! because ive been spraying in the refuse room in my building and it is about 5x5 feet....im soo bad about doing this kinda stuff outdoors...i used to spray things in the bathroom with the door closed so hiro couldn't smell it but then he found out and executed my spraying rights in the apartment.... Oh and thankyou for the tip stella! hand paint primer or spray primer? :)

yes definitely wear a mask!!! come to think of it, outdoors will have too much dust and sand grains that could stick to your stuff...

also spray fixatives will go on much smoother, no streaks. :) and let me know if you have any other painting/hardware q's :)

The jewelry will be up soon - im almost done with stitching all of it..turned out better than i thought thankfully.... Im glad you like the postcard lena :) It is very fancy on the other side too! :) Oh I wish I could do it in my hallway but weve got carpet..... :/ I do though however open the window and screen and hold pieces on a string to spray sometimes if it's not windy....however, ive dropped things from time to time :/ -> :)

Have you seen the pattern for polyhedron beaded beads (by Laura Shea) published in The Art of Beadwork by Valerie Hector? I've made a bunch of them and although they're quite tricky to figure out but they make up splendidly. I've been wanting to make large paper spheres and connect them with the technique, but have too much else going on. You might like trying to make some as part of your sculpture work. I’d love to see what others would do with the spheres on a larger scale.
