Well my dear ladies and gentlemen my own little "Cocoon" is officially 1 years old today - oh what a proud lil mommy I am of cocoon ~ she's grown so much over this last year !! :) lol
So I don't normally post things from my American Vogue on my blog but in this month's issue I felt compelled to do so! With an elegant crocheted dress by Nanette Lapore [which reminds me of you erin - purldrop designer- and my mom* ] a pair of simple flat sandals that are nicely studded that I can see being worn for seasons to come and a little coat that looks to be made out of linen maybe? Mix all those together with a gorgeous ring that you might keep mistaking for chocolate on your finger and you've got one hell of an outfit for spring ....... and summer *****
And last but not least - Vera Wang's debut of her lingerie! Elegant, sexy, & practical! My three favorite things together - They look so comfortable that you wouldn't want to take them off! :)
So I am excited to say that I am participating in my first ever gallery show at paper boat boutique in Milwaukee, Wi [ www.paperboatboutique.com] Faythe Levin who is the curator and co-owner asked if I wanted to participate and I said OHH YEAH!!! :) The theme for the show is "Queen of Hearts" for which we are supposed to be inspired from....It was a fun theme and I had fun doing it. My drawings below are only 5x5", but the size suits me just well :) hope you like ~* the show starts in February. p.s. I got my "models" from last years Teen Vogue February issue *
Late last night as I was getting side tracked online and googling Swedish designers I came across a site called bsweden.com that has some really great modern looking light fixtures. The one light fixture that caught my attention was this steel crocheted looking fixture.....I liked it right off the bat because......back in 2001 when Hiro and I got married [July 20th] our first apartment was a fully furnished studio on the 27th floor in a condominium on 43rd & 10th. Now before I go any further, I feel it necessary to describe what the studio was furnished with. Basically all the furniture, lighting, plates, glasses, shower curtain etc. were all from FINGERHUT!!! I personally HATE HATE HATE I mean HATE that place [that is probably the only thing on earth that I really HATE!] It's all faux wood and faux brass furnishings that are wobbly and gigantic. So our 400 sq. foot studio had a full size bed, ugly large cream leather couch, circle table and two chairs a large dresser and a HUGE GIGANTIC entertainment center that was about 7 feet tall and 8 feet wide with ever so lovely mirror paneling to go with it! Gross - Yuck Yuck to the max!!!! All that furniture combined pretty much took up 320 sq. feet - literally [I will post pictures someday] and above our bed hung this super ugly glass spaceship wannabe modern looking light fixture that I had to cover up somehow the instant I saw it. I found some lime green paper and just cut the same designs for each piece - taped them together and then around the perimeter of that light fixture.... and below is the picture of it! :) And what makes me even more happy I guess is I remember my mom saying to me about 6 years ago " you know how I can tell you are definitely Swedish?" "how mom?" "Because you cover everything with your designs!" :) lol now I know that is true for other countries as well but it made me proud that even though im second generation born I still got a little Swedish in me :) But so back to this light fixture on bsweden.com I thought last night ---- two great minds do think alike!!! :) When I went to go click on her picture I was wondering if she and I would even look similar [ that thought was kinda planted by Conan Obrian's latest stunt that he is doing with promoting the current female president of Finland who is up for re-election <-----okay maybe none of that just made sense there and that is what happens when Roxana Asami goes beyond the 4 sentence limit!! :)
So my first official coloring book is completed and up for sale on cutxpaste.com along with my yarn bracelets and other goods from that are 25% off!!! Pretty darn cool I must say! :) So yeah ive just been sittin here coloring away already in me little ol book :) ahah hee hee - was having trouble with staying in the lines at first but now ive got the hang of it I think. 20 pages total and 16 to color ~ $18 buckaroos *
So as I am usually browsing design sponge's blog, today I noticed something I really liked that she posted from the Savannah College of Art and Design website www.shopscadonline.com - if you haven't gone to their site you should! Beautiful well crafted pieces - however I do have to say that it was kinda weird that everything seemed so similar yet from so many different people...A lot of the same color palette all over, besides that little thing - every thing is fun to look at. My favorite pieces out of the entire site have to be from the designer Amy Pilkington by far! So minimal, clean and feminine all at the same time! Love it ~ just be ready to put down a chunk of money for her items though :/ someday........... p.s. whoopsies - I messed up on the spelling of her last name on the picture - it is Pilkington. :)
Got some more yarn bracelets made up - below is a picture of some of them [they have wire inside which makes them perfectly adjustable] if your like me and don't really like bracelets that slide all up and down your arm then these are perfect for you - totally stay in place if you wish! Also ive got an Coloring/Art book that I just finished that ill post later today or tommorow that will be for sale at a couple places - ill keep you lads posted on that. Also I want to sincerely apologize to those who emailed a couple weeks before christmas about wanting to buy some of my yarn bracelets and because of school I didn't email back about it nor did I email anyone else on the planet during that time....So I apologize for that :/ - good day ladies.....and gents*
We just found out tonight that Hiro's dog he had growing up [tina] passed away yesterday - she had a tumor :( she did go through an operation last year and then one just recently for it but recovered pretty well so it is a little shock to Hiro's family that she went this quickly. She was 11 years old and a terrific dog. Hiro deeply loved her and is in mourning... for those who don't have dogs or cats it is hard to relate but when you do it is really like loosing a member of the family. :/ Below is a picture of Hiro in Japan last year with Tina and his Dad below at the park with Tina and their other dog Reno.
Well I feel pretty lame for not posting anything for over a month now! A lot has happened ~ School ended for me on the 21st of Dec... that last week was CRAZY!!!! On Tuesday and Wednesday my last two days of school, the MTA decided to go on strike, plus NYC made a rule during that period that it had to be 4 people to a cab :( so I ended up having to rollerblade to and from school, which only took about 20 min. there and 20 back, but it was about 14 degrees those two days if I remember correctly, so needless to say I got a really bad cold Wednesday night up untill christmas eve. Hiro did a great job at taking care of me! :) So last week I finally started getting all the fusion stuff together, got all my fabric and ordered some plus a coat pattern on thegreenpepper.com, really cool place to get outdoor clothing patterns [even though the coat im making isn't an "outdoor" look, it is the shape and style that I need...and yesterday I finally started sewing my designs and so far so good! Happy about that ~ I am nervous to start the pants though :/ I also started an artbooklet exchange with my classmates that I thought would be fun to do - below is one of the drawings I did for it. Hope you like* :)
