fredflare.com

Tonight after school, I went to Fred Flare's summer catalog/clothing and pod cast launch party at Hotel QT. People there was a pool there!!! It was really cool inside.... it almost felt like a teenagers bedroom with the lights turned down low, some tea light candles hovering about with a huge pool in the middle! :) So I had fun browsing their fredflare's new summer goods, which were all too cute it was hard to decide which t-shirt to get... :/ So instead of getting one for myself, I decided I would get one for Hiro. He loves it! It looks sooo cute on him and fits him really well too! Ladies I suggest you head on over to fred flare to get yourself a lil somethin somethin ~ might I suggest the heart sunglasses ~ those definitely equal Coney Island!! :)

Donna Karan @ the Parsons table!!!

Last night my classmates Tamara, Hye Jung and I went to hear Donna Karan speak with our dean Paul Goldberger at the Tischman Auditorium. It was so great, I left there feeling inspired and energized and hopeful about my future as a designer. One thing she touched on that made me feel soo much better about myself was that she said she is a very young at heart. She said that her daughter acts older than her and that it has always been that way! I feel like that too!!! I know many people have said I act immature for my age, [ive heard this spoken under people's breath] so im obviously aware of what people think of me, but I have never cared because that is who I am ~ I can't say that it has never hurt to hear that + it has + but it's me and it will never change, besides im just a young happy soul at heart! So when I heard Donna Karan say that about herself it was kind of like a *sigh* of relief....especially to see that she has embraced that about her and she gets a kick out of it looks like and so does her daughter [her daughter was in the audience] anyways it was a great experience and I kept thinking last night how it was not long ago that I was sitting in the Kencraft Candy Factory in Alpine, Utah looking out the big octagon window in the lunch room EVERY day thinking how I want to go to art school SOOO bad and that I couldn't wait for that to happen and to meet other creative people!!!

Recent School Work

This weekend I was really sick with a major head cold > I started with just a sore throat last week and then it got even worse....till Saturday afternoon my whole body was completely drained of energy and I had to lay down, well I pretty much didn't get up till this morning! It was a bummer of a weekend for me mainly because Saturday it was 80 degrees!! and 70 degrees yesterday!! I hope all you Manhattanites took advantage of the awesome weather!!! Luckily Friday night after a friends "annual spring party" that Hiro and I went to I was able to get most of my 3D homework done [ color wall hanging ] and my drawing fundamentals self portrait [ mine is of me wearing a red hat on the upper right hand corner] and I just now finished my 3D homework and I LOVE it!!! I can't wait to hang it on my wall :[)

Tuesday Happenings

Yesterday was a busy day > went to see the Frick Collection, and while I was waiting for the M11 bus to come to go there, this display caught my eye! :) hee hee hardy har har > twas tempted to buy one....especially since they're only 50 cents!! Then I had to go to school to finish off a paper > when I was done with that I head over to my friend Caroline Beth Rosebrough's show of her artwork at her school Cooper Union > her friend and classmate Lander Rose Burton shared half of the walls with her artwork as well. Caroline and I are standing next to her's and her friend Lander's piece is below > they had more works showing ofcourse > all I can say is that I was sooo impressed! These girls are sophmores > 19 or 20 years old and their work is amazing! Loved it! Then afterwards I stopped in good ol Rite Aide for some lovely easter candy that is marked 50% off! HA! Love it! Anyways I got lost in the "Summer fun" aisle and started reminiscing about my summers as a child and got sad thinking about it, but then decided to take some pictures of those things to make me happy > perhaps when I got to Utah this summer for a couple weeks I will get some super soakers, chalk, and otter pops, and bring them with me to re-live what I so desperately miss EVERY single summer! Apologies to those who feel like it is too soon for me to be talking about summer. :/

3 million plastic cups

Today during our lunch break some of my classmates and I went to the Pace Wildenstein gallery in Chelsea to see Tara Donovan's large scale installation resembling a topographical landscape. The press release that I was given states "Known for utilizing common and manufactured materials as components of her installations and sculptures, Donovan has been recognized for her commitment to process. She earned acclaim for her ability to discover how the inherent physical characteristics of an object might allow it to be transformed into art." <- I thought that was interesting.... this installation was really exceptional, it got me to thinking of all the forgotten household items I have lying around and wondering if I could utilize them in some kind of artform...I thought about that for close to a minute then decided..nah...I don't have that kind of patience right now ... someday perhaps ~ if your in the area, check it out!

Window Shopping

Yesterday my Critical Reading & Writing class took a tour through the lower part of Central Park. It was cold yesterday. Very cold. So cold it snowed and I only had my light wind breaker jacket. Completely, utterly unprepaired - pooey. However, I did stroll by Bergdor Goodman's and peeked in the window watching the new window displays get put up [I found out too yesterday that you can actually get a degree in window dressing! *too cool*] So I snapped some pretty pictures before our tour....hmmmm spring ladies and gentlemen, SPRING! *can't wait*

Fusionize Yourself!

Hey Everyone!!!! It has been awhile since ive last wrote in my blog - I had been working like a mad woman to thoroughly finish my fusion menswear collection for this past weekend's fashion show! All three shows were fantastic, lively, and full of energy...im so sad and bummed for anyone who missed it! It was so inspiring, scary, nerve racking, crazed etc. Throughout this time of working on my collection I found myself complaining and saying oh I can't wait to get this over with, I can't wait to have a winter and spring break next year without doing anything etc. etc. but now that it is over I can't stop thinking about it and my heart is longing for more shows ~ I know that sounds horribly cheesy but it is just something ive envisioned my entire life [and I imagine others as well] doing and with it finally happening it is breathtaking for me....oh does that sound so cheesy..... but when I was watching my models on the runway on the Sunday night show, I could hardly breathe and tears just started flowing down my face....I was witnessing something that I had been thinking about for years come true!!! For anyone else who has had experiences like that happen, id love to hear them! They are inspiring to me and is what keeps me dreaming EVERY DAY!!! I just want to thank everyone for being soo supportive and offering help throughout this process and inquiring all the time how im doing etc. Thankyou to my models!!! Your energy was AWESOME!!! You guys were sooo much fun to work with and I especially loved seeing you all interact together with a super positive hillarious attitude!!! Mkay so I hope you all enjoy the pictures, and thanks for checking out my blog! Have a great day! xo - Roxy M. Asami :^)
