Ta Ta Ta Turban........

So id like to give a shout out to Mrs. Miuccia Prada for having her models sport turbans during her Spring/Summer 07 runway show! My little Stella girl liked them so much [she's sat on my lap and has watched a couple shows with me] that she wanted one of her own, so this morning I made a teeny tiny makeshift yorkie turban, id like to call it the Turkie! :) lol honestly, can't you imagine a bunch of yorkies walking down the street wearing turkies? I sure can! Truthfully though, I actually do like them :^]

There's Always Another Pose!!!! - Richard Rosenfeld

The title of my entry is a line that my fashion drawing teacher Richard ALWAYS says nonstop! I wish I could tape record his voice for you all to hear, it is very memorable.... let me just put it that way! This weeks homework that was due for my concepts class was to pick 5-7 pieces from our swimwear collection we designed and then "finish" them [meaning make them look TOP NOTCH!] So the top two pics are my finishes, big improvement huh ~ thanks to the help from one of my old fashion drawing books.... the bottom left picture is for fashion drawing tomorrow, we had to paint an outfit/dress from shade to tint and vice versa, I really like the models pose, oh and the dress she [Giselle] is wearing is BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL!!! Ill try and remember to post it this weekend perhaps. And then the bottom right picture is what went with my fashion history report that I ended up doing totally wrong! I feel like im always missing the boat on stuff, I know right now is a very stressful time for me, and then also being out of school for so long, sometimes it really does feel like an old fart! And I HATE HATE HATE thinking that because im only 25 and mentally I feel 19! GAH!!!! Fist shaking in the air *shake, shake* ~ Then there is the whole writing thing, for those who know me well, know that I constantly struggle with it! Grammar & sentence structure are my adversaries...they are out to get me! And how is it that my mom is an excellent writer, and I didn't get a single ounce of knowledge in that area? But I do realize that I myself cannot be great at everything, best to be really good at something [like fashion design] than a little good in a lot of things, however I bet Martha Stewart would argue differently. :/

Homework from my Concepts class

My first homework assignment in my Concepts class was to do a shopping report on swimwear or lingerie. I chose to do mine on Roxy/ Quicksilver. You have to pick 4-5 pieces from their spring/summer collection and do detail drawings of them which then should include the price range, type of fabrics used, sizes, who the customer is etc. This assignment took me FOREVER, but it was a lot of fun doing it since drawing was involved! Second assignment was to create 3 mood boards, a personal one of one's own style, and then two others with different inspirations for a swimwear collection that we would design. [I forgot to put up my personal one, another time] for the two collections I thought of blue collar workers and then upper east side, preppy, country club type folks. I decided to go with the country club since I felt like I had more resources when it comes to the trimmings since I knew exactly what I wanted to add. The Bluecollar will have to be for another time... So then we have to do 20-30 croquis in our sketch book, all painted in gouache [which I absolutely LOVE now, I feel like such a dork for complaining about the gouache earlier <- sorry gouache!] Plus closeup details of hardware, buttons, stitching etc. I will only show you my swatch board and two swimsuits that I liked the least just because of plagiarism issues. That assignment took me 18 hours to do because im utterly horrible at drawing the fashion figure! :/ Now from that assignment we have to pick our best 5-7 pieces and redo them [which is called finishes] on Parsons paper. p.s. for our collections we weren't allowed to do any patterns so that is why the swimwear is pretty plain.

fair faces*

For school we have to look at all the shows during fashion week in every city.... Rough life huh! Anyways, here are some pictures of my favorite models that I would like to see more of. I could have done a whole slew but I decided to narrow it down. And on other news : School Update = basically let's just say that FASHION at Parsons is HARD CORE!!!!! I don't want to come off sounding whiny, but it is soooo much more than I had expected! I don't think most people understand how rigorous AND demanding it is! Let me just give you a whiff of my schedule: Monday: 9am - 3pm [one 6 hr. class, *Methods*] Tuesday: 9am - 6pm [ one 6 hr. class *Concepts* & one 3 hr. class *Fashion Digital*] Wednesday: NO SCHOOL!!!! Thursday: 12pm - 9 pm [one 3 hr. class * Fashion History* & one 6 hr. class *Fashion Illustration*] Friday: 12pm - 6pm [ two lectures and two recitations back to back *Intro to Design & History 1850-2000*] And then on top of that I started babysitting again Monday & Wednesday.... Tomorrow I will post some pictures of recent work that will give you an idea of what is expected. Honestly I shouldn't even be putting time into posting on my blog but ive been reading ALL day today about Semiotics and I think im going to kill myself!!!!! <- Notice how im not laughing....... :/

Interior & Furr

Real quick I wanted to show you all what our fashion drawing class's view out the window was, looking out onto 7th ave! LOVE IT!!! For 6 hours we are in that class drawing drawing drawing, and can I just say that my teacher is a HOOT to the max!!! He said he was Marc Jacobs and Isaac Mizrahi's drawing teacher back in the day and that he looooves Isaac because of how sweet and genuine he is in private & public but doesn't care for Marc Jacobs because he will totally look the other way when he sees my teacher. Talk about insecure, especially if you met my teacher, one would think "how can you ignore this man, he is fantastic!" And because it has been awhile since posting something on Stella or Sebastian. I have my hands full with this one! :) lol

School Spirit!

Well my peeps, it is back to school for little Roxana Asami! And let me just say, they were not joking when they said sophomore year would be intense. Today was my first day [ 9 am to 5:40 pm > two classes: Design Concepts & Fashion Digital] Already ive got a pretty big load of work to do, but................... it is FUN work! Im not complaining at all when my homework is to do a mood board and shopping reports!!! I really really hope that this year I can be better about documenting my work and progress mainly for kicks and also to help and inspire anyone interested in what Fashion Design school is like and also to help in ones own personal progress of design in some format...mmmm am I making any sense? Oh was hoping by now I would have kicked my syntax problem... anyways, good luck to those who are also starting school again - you ROCK! :) ahahaha lol I thought I needed to say that since it's probably been about 5 years or so since it's been said and we just don't wanna loose that now do we! :[)

The sweetest milk glass you ever did see! :)

When I was at Trader Joe's last week picking up a couple groceries and needing to get some jelly, I browsed the isle for my regular raspberry spread [with seeds!] but instead ended up picking up this orange marmalade, why? Because the jar it is in is totally milk glass dear friends! And the lid itself is too cute! I thought a nice collection of super cute jar lids would make awesome Christmas tree decorations, or whatever for that matter - they are so delightful.
